We ordered one loco moco with a side of fresh papaya for two people, which was enough to leave us full! We even had plenty of leftovers! And their coffees can’t be beaten — freshly brewed and delicious.

Why we love it: The food was delicious. Not only does this family-run business offer generous portion sizes, homemade recipes, and a pleasant atmosphere, but it also comes with prices that won’t break the bank — quite surprising for the often pricey Kauai!

Tip: If you don’t want to wait during peak hours, it’s best to come before or after that rush. We’ve even had luck arriving right at opening time and were seated immediately! But plan ahead — the wait can be long.

The atmosphere here is relaxed, and the staff is always friendly. Outdoor seating is available if you want to take your meal outside and enjoy the fresh air.

We can’t count how often we’ve stopped by this restaurant for a quick breakfast before exploring one of Kauai’s beautiful trails. Ideally located in downtown Kappa’a, this food truck deserves praise.

We usually stop here to get our caffeine fix before heading out for an adventure. Fortunately, we stayed at Islander on the Beach, conveniently located right next door.

Imua Coffee Roasters offers various coffee options, from hot and cold brews to lattes and cappuccinos. Their breakfast menu includes pastries, bagels, yogurt parfaits, fresh fruit, etc.

The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with plenty of seating inside and outside. The staff is all amicable and accommodating.

Why we love it: We love that Imua Coffee Roasters is conveniently located in Islander on the Beach. The coffee is always fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing breakfast. They also offer many vegan options, so it’s great for those with dietary restrictions.

What’s it like?: Located in the lush mountains of upcountry Kalaheo, Kalaheo Cafe is a cozy and inviting spot to grab breakfast.

With generous portion sizes and a tasty selection of omelets, pancakes, burrito wraps, and bowls, it’s no surprise that this cafe is popular with locals and tourists alike.

Don’t forget to try one of their delicious beverages as well – from coffee to tea to smoothies and juices, there’s something for everyone to enjoy! The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the service is prompt – making it perfect for any occasion!

We knew we were in for a treat when we ordered the Paniolo-style breakfast with two eggs, hash browns, Portuguese sausage, and a corn muffin – it was delicious! We also tried the scrambled egg, meat, and cheese sandwich with bacon, which was fantastic. The Portuguese sausage stood out – it was some of the best we’d ever had!

Why we love it: We love that this restaurant is a little tucked-away spot in Kalaheo but still close to everything. You order your food ahead of time and then find a table – it’s very convenient! We love that service is fast and efficient, making this our go-to spot for breakfast.

9. Anake’s Juice Bar

What’s it like?: Anake’s Juice Bar is an excellent spot for health-conscious folks looking for breakfast or brunch in Kauai. The quaint juice bar has a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, serving delicious fresh juices, acai bowls, and smoothies.

It’s tucked away inside Kukuiula Market, past the grocery store towards the back. It might not look like much outside, but the food and service make it worthwhile!

My favorite thing to order here is their mouthwatering acai bowls; the Poipu paradise in medium size is enough to fill me up. This place is my go-to on Kauai for tasty acai or fresh juices.

Why we love it: We adore this spot for its fresh, healthy meals and cozy atmosphere. I usually bring my laptop here to work while enjoying a delicious bowl of acai. The surrounding Kukuiula Market is also handy if you need any groceries while you’re there.

10. Anuenue Cafe

What’s it like?: If you’re looking for a delicious breakfast spot with a Hawaiian flair, then Anuenue Cafe is the way to go. This charming cafe is conveniently located in the Poipu shopping village and serves fantastic dishes.

Their menu includes unique items such as Kaua’i Roastery Coffee, Anahola Granola, Makaweli Meat Company Beef, Lawai Valley Mushrooms, Kaua’i shrimp, and a variety of local produce. You’ll find your favorite breakfast items such as delicious omelets, eggs benedict, french toast, avocado toast, and more.

We mainly come here for their kalua pork fried rice. It’s a unique option for breakfast, but we love it! The omelets and french toast are also great and always cooked to perfection. 

Tip: I have seen a few complaints about the omelets being salty, so make sure to ask for a lighter hand on the salt! We’ve done this multiple times and haven’t had issues.

Why we love it: The food is terrific, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Plus, the prices are very reasonable for such quality dishes. Also, service is fast, you order your food, and they bring your food outside to you. All in all, a great breakfast spot for locals and visitors alike!

11. Little Fish Coffee

Their menu includes all the classic breakfast items such as acai bowls, smoothies, sandwiches, and bagels. We especially love the acai bowls and smoothie options.

Tip: Little Fish Coffee is a very popular breakfast spot in Poipu. Expect long lines from the moment they open. If you are short on time or would like to avoid waiting, place your order online and pick it up in-store.

Their portions are generous, and the quality of the food is excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful.

The head chef Sam Choy is a celebrity Chef, and his recipes are featured on the menu. Before returning to the island, he was the head chef at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.

Why we love it: The food is fantastic. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and everything is cooked to perfection. We love the banana mac pancakes and the loco moco – two dishes you can’t miss! Plus, their service is friendly and efficient.

Their garlic shrimp and chicken katsu are also highly recommended if you go there close to lunchtime.

If you have an insatiable sweet tooth, Hanalei Bread Co. will surely satisfy! Their selection of pastries – including delicious croissants, mouthwatering banana bread, Nutella rolls, and classic cinnamon rolls and muffins – won’t leave you disappointed.

Why we love it: From its tasty dishes to their variety of pastries, this place offers a fantastic dining experience. The atmosphere is also very welcoming and inviting – it’s worth a visit if you’re ever in Hanalei.

Tip: Seating might be limited, but spots open up quickly. There were few seats open when we got there, but a few minutes after getting our food, we found a table. Be patient, and you’ll be able to grab a seat in no time.

At Holey Grail Donuts, every donut is handmade and baked fresh daily with top-notch ingredients. The dough is infused with Hawaiian-grown taro giving it a soft, fluffy texture. 

From chocolate and pineapple to miso honey and strawberry fields flavors, there’s something here for everyone – you can even buy tasting boxes if you want to sample all the flavors!

The eggs benedict are also highly recommended – the eggs are cooked to perfection, and the hollandaise sauce melts in your mouth. It comes with fresh potato chips, which is an added bonus.
